Whirlwind Tour of South America

After leaving Rio de Janeiro on Friday we have been in Foz do Iguarcu, a city in an area called Three Frontiers as Foz is at the confluence of 2 rivers.
Standing in Argentina with Brazil across the river on the right and Paraguay on the left and behind

The first is the Iguarcu River and just over the bridge is Argentina. The other River is the Parana and just across a bridge there is Paraguay. The reason to come to Foz was to see the magnificent Iguarcu falls that are shared between Brazil and Argentina and to do justice to need to go to both sides. From Brazil the overview is a lot better but the close ups are much better in Argentina so we had a day on each side. From Brazil the sun was shining so Rainbows appeared through the spray and mist and we were completely drenched where as in Argentina the day was cloudy but the noise and sight was truly impressive. I felt like a tour guide in Argentina, no I had never been there but Jan and I managed to collect a Polish Guy, a family of Japanese and for some of it a New Zealand guy who thought we knew what we were doing and where we were going. (Oh silly people). We didnt get them lost though and it was fun trying to explain birds that we saw.

Today is our last day here so we took a trip to Itaipu Dam on the River Parana. This is a joint structure built to supply electricity on a 50-50 share between Brazil and Paraguay. The tour on, round, in and through the dam including down in the turbine halls was amazing. It supplies all of Paraguays electricity and only 17% of Brazil and that includes Paraguay selling over half of their 50% back to Brazil.

We now move onto The Pantanal to what must be the highlight for me with animals, birds, reptiles and with some luck a Jaguar. We will put pictures up as soon as we can but we dont expect electricity on all the trip let alone internet.

The weather has been mixed with hot sun, torrential rain and a very cool day yesterday but overall it is neither really hot or very cold
