2014 Adventure

It doesn't seem that long ago since we came back from Botswana but here we go again, another Continent and two countries that neither of us have been to before surprisingly.

This year the trip is away from the warm dry dusty conditions of sub-Sahara Africa and a trip going north and west to Canada and Alaska.

Westart with a flight across Iceland and Greenland before heading down to Calgary in Alberta. Here we pick up an RV (motorhome to those who don't speak foreign languages) and head of up towards Jasper via Banff and across the Yellowhead Highway through Prince George to Prince Rupert. Here we transfer to a ferry and take the Alaska Marine Highway through the Inside Passage leaving Canada and entering Alaskan Waters, hoping for Whales, Sea Otters and lots of birds before we reach the capital of Alaska at Juneau. Here we get of the ferry and stay for a few days right beside the Mendenhall Glacier. With a flight out to Gustavus then a transfer to a s,mall catamaran we will go on a trip around Glacier Bay and certainly wish to see Glaciers calving into the sea along with close encounters with seals, whales and bears before flying back to Juneau.
From Juneau we again take the ferry heading North west to Haines before jumping back on the road in the RV and driving up the Haines Highway, crossing back into Canada followed by a couple of hours later back into Alaska and onto Haines Junction and driving part of the Alaska Highway to Tok and onto Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsular. This is another place we hope for bears. From Kenai it is due north up to Fairbanks via Denali Park and staying not far from Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America. Fairbanks is the most northerly place we will go to as it is just a couple of hundred miles from The Arctic Circle.
From Fairbanks we start on the famous "Alcan", The Alaska Highway which we will roughly follow, with a few diversions all the way to it's beginning at Dawson Creek. On the way down we will go to places such as North Pole (OK a small town called North Pole, not the cold snow ridden place), a diversion over The Top of the World Highway through Dawson City to Whitehorse and Watson Lake before we leave Alaska behind and travel back through Canada's Yukon Territory through Fort Nelson, Dawson Creek and onto Edmonton and final Calgary before the return back to UK.

Highlights will be Black and Brown Bears, Wolves, Moose, Eagles and Whales in the wildlife side plus rugged mountains, Lots of Glaciers and some wild and remote driving and RVing. Hopefully we will also find some nice hotels/motels and restaurants on the way to make a change from the driving and living in the same place all the time.

The yellow track on the map above it our projected route and only the ferry and Juneau plus the time in Denali have been booked, all the rest we are flexible on and hope to just see how we go and what we find on the way.

We will post as often as we can on here along with photos. Any comments posted are always appreciated.
