Canada, a New Country for both of Us

Well we made it after a long but good flight with Air Canada and a very easy security check at the New Terminal 2 building at Heathrow we arrived in Calgary. The flight over Iceland (very cloudy) and Greenland (not at all green but very clear with lots of snow rock and Glacier easily visible from 34,000 feet up.
Calgary is a beautiful city with a mix of very new buildings and some much older but our short time of a couple of days was good with visits to Fort Calgary, the Zoo and various bars and restaurants.

On Saturday, a couple of days after we arrived, off we went to collect our transport and home for the next month. It looked good, bigger than we thought and after a few checks, a few instructions for Jan on how to fill the water tanks and how to empty the foul water tanks plus instructions for me on where is the best place to keep the beer cool we left via the local supermarket for supplies and onto the motorways around Calgary and very quickly onto the "Icefield Parkway" through Banff, Lake Louise and onto Jasper where we hoped to spend the night. We have over 1000miles to cover in 3 days to get to Prince Rupert in British Columbia and a ferry onto Alaska. The roads were busy with weekend traffic all enjoying the sunny weather.

The Icefield Parkway runs up through the Canadian Rockies with high snow capped peaks and plenty of Glaciers to see. A really fantastic drive and start to the holiday. Signs were everywhere about the wildlife but it took a while to see some then we came across a Black Bear by the side of the road followed by 2 more a little later. Apart from one woman wanting to scream loudly that the "Bear was there" most of the public stopped and took pictures. We were within a few metres and all out the cars but the bears didn't seem to care at all. They just carried on finding berries to eat.

We made it to Jasper only to find pretty well everywhere was completely full so we were directed to an "overflow" site just outside the town which was fine, A big field with some trees around but no electricity and water so you had to be self sufficient which we were.
Today we have made it along "Yellow Head Highway" from Jasper and managed about 450 miles today plus the 300 yesterday we now have about 250 to do tomorrow.

A lot more photos have been added to the link
More to follow when we get internet again
